Biometrics Not Enough? Here’s How Apple’s New Feature Secures Your Stolen iPhone

With the iOS 17.3 update, Apple has introduced several new features for iPhones, including the Stolen Device Protection feature. This feature provides an additional layer of security to prevent potential disasters in case your iPhone is stolen and the thief gains access to your password.

Protect Your iPhone Like Never Before: A Guide to Stolen Device Protection

Smartphones contain a lot of personal data, including communication, passwords, and financial information. If a thief gains access to this information, it could lead to serious consequences like identity theft, unauthorized transactions, and more.

Stolen Device Protection requires biometric authentication in such scenarios and adds an extra layer of security beyond biometric features like Face ID and Touch ID. If someone manages to bypass biometric security and change your Apple ID password, Apple provides a one-hour window for this change. This security delay aims to stop a thief from making crucial actions and gives you time to mark your device as lost and secure your Apple account.

To turn on Stolen Device Protection mode on your iPhone, follow these simple steps:

1. Open Settings on your iPhone.

2. Tap on Face ID & Passcode or Touch ID & Passcode, depending on your iPhone model.

3. Enter your device passcode.

4. Scroll down to the Stolen Device Protection section.

5. Toggle on the Turn On Protection switch.
